A child of music, I was born close to Charlotte, NC. (Monroe) and grew up app. 40 miles south in Chesterfield, SC. Yes…Carolina in my mind and body. I was singing and playing guitar in my uncle's country music band by the time I was 8. When I was 12 I had a #1 record (OK so it was only #1 at a couple of local stations in Cheraw & Rockingham…but it was STILL #1!) Alas by the time I finished high school, I was no closer to "the big time" than I was when I was 12 – enter radio. Being a musician, I'd always had an interest in the business and seeing as how it was going to pay more (monetarily) than a fledgling music career, I jumped at the chance to get my feet wet. I won a contest to do a show on WROQ in Charlotte; and at 16 I was hooked. After a couple of shows here and there, I began part-time at Z103 in Cheraw in July-1979. In a year's time I was doing afternoon drive and had the title of music director. After becoming program director for a year or so, I moved to WJMX in Florence in August 0f '85. After 1 year there, I continued getting closer to the Grand Strand with a 3 ½ year stint in Dillon, SC at Z93. In Feb. of '90, I moved to the Myrtle Beach area to work at WNMB (then B105). I was there for 11 years as "Mitch in the Morning" or "Mitch & …(fill in the blank)". In late 2000 I began working for another station here on the Beach (they bought WNMB), and after 3 years there I made the move to Star 92.1 with my current (& best partner) Alix Michaels. Together, we have a great time doing what we love and what more can you hope for in your work (more money$??). What a long, strange trip it's been…and the ride ain't over. I have a beautiful daughter (Courtney-20 this year-June/2006) and I'm a rabid Atlanta Braves/Carolina Panthers/Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Movies and music are my life, and a large collection of both fills my abode. My favorite group is CHICAGO, album -"Aja" – STEELY DAN, movie -"Close Encounters of the Third Kind", TV show(s) -"Seinfeld" & "The X-Files" (I really love the new show "The Office"), author – Stephen King, book - "The Stand". …. That pretty much sums up ME. |
